Here’s what is happening in the govcon industry as we head into spring:
WashingtonExec conducted a number of exclusive interviews with top executives during the past three weeks, including:
- Renegade Technology Systems’ RJ Narang, as his company rebranded itself to better reflect its mission to serve government clients
- Oceus Networks’ Cal Shintani, who discussed the technology procurement process and how to attract the coveted early adopter market in the contracting industry.
- Giant Oak’s Dr. Gary Shiffman on keeping busy and staying happy. He has been a professor at Georgetown University for the past 12 years, the place he describes as the source of his greatest intellectual challenges.
- Intelligence and National Security Alliance hosted U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency director Robert Cardillo, who spoke about the growing Earth imaging satellite industry and its data implications, along with his vision for positioning NGA in the Intelligence Community moving forward.
- Lockheed Martin’s newly-promoted Roy Stevens, now Vice President of Global Services for Information Systems & Global Solutions sector, on how he’s adjusting to the new job, the challenges of operating in overseas markets and cultures, and the continually-growing IT industry.
- Dan Wilbricht, Regional Director of Federal Intelligence Programs at Dell Software Group, on how Dell is keeping government clients secure as they leverage new and exciting capabilities.
Contract awards went to Serco Inc. from Navy Personnel Command; Government Contract Solutions and ERIMAX Inc. from the FBI Finance Division Procurement Section; Capstone Corp. from the Dept. of Defense; Salient Federal Solutions from USPTO; MacAulay-Brown Inc. and Wright State Research Institute from the U.S. Air Force; and Pragmatics from the U.S. Air Force.
Unisys Corp. is opening a new client service center in Augusta, Ga., and Salient Federal Solutions is opening an office in Pensacola, Fla.
On the mergers and acquisitions front, SRA International announced it will be acquiring Qbase LLC, and Accenture Federal completed its acquisition of Agilex Technologies Inc.
WashingtonExec, in partnership with George Mason University, hosted a happy hour for the Patriots in Federal IT. The newly-established group provides an opportunity for GMU undergrad and graduate students, who currently work in the GovCon IT industry, to mix, mingle and get to know one another. The purpose of the group is to foster collaboration and networking among those in the government and contracting sphere.
We also hosted our monthly executive council happy hour, sponsored by Newmark Grubb Knight Frank. Our Rising Stars group hosted Sid Fuchs on the importance of strategic networking.
Spring has also brought new jobs for the following individuals:
- The Aerospace Corporation announced Randy Kendall will become Vice President of Space Launch Operations, replacing Ray Johnson who retires on July 1. Ed Swallow will replace Kendall as the new Vice President for Civil and Commercial Operations.
- Laurel Strategies appointed former USAID Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah to its Board of Advisors
- CNSI named Arnold Morse as its General Counsel
- InCadence Strategic Solutions hired David Boyd as Vice President of Data Solutions
- CETERPOINT Inc. CEO Ed Silva has been elected to serve on the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia’s Board of Directors
- Box hired former GSA CIO Sonny Hashmi to lead the company’s growth in the federal government sector
- Giant Oak Inc. hired Sarah Mravec as a data scientist
- L-3 National Security Solutions named USAF Lt. Gen. Michael Basla SVP of strategic development

- The Nysmith School CyberPatriot team took home top honors at the national competition, earning the group a trip to the White House Science Fair.
- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society honored Northrop Grumman’s James Palmer with the Distringuished Lifetime Achievement Award at its annual ball
- GovLab Academy is seeking $35,000 in sponsorship to run an open data summer camp for D.C. students
- U.S. Chief Technology Officer Megan Smith spoke at the SXSW Festival about innovation in federal IT
- The 2015 Heart Ball raised nearly $1.2 million for the American Health Association
- Obama nominated Laverne Horton Council for the VA Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology
