After the whirlwind of last weekend’s 2015 K-12 STEM Symposium, things are a bit calmer this week in the WashingtonExec offices. Many thanks to our sponsors Leidos and Vencore, along with venue sponsor, Nysmith School. We also appreciate the help from our many volunteers and to everyone who attended the event.

Here’s a quick recap of the speakers from the event:

    • Panel I: “Follow Your Passion and Find Your Purpose”, featuring Google’s Michele Weslander-Quaid and NGA’s Dr. Ann Carbonell
    • Panel II: Making STEM Cool for Kids, “We Are All Astronauts”, featuring NASA’s Kenneth Cameron, Vencore’s Eric Schierling and TJHSST’s Pooja Chandrashekar
    • Co-Keynote Speakers Dr. Evan Glazer and Lou Von Thaer
    • Virginia Senator Tim Kaine and Virginia Secretary of Education Anne Holton

Here’s what else is going on in the govcon industry this week:

WashingtonExec spoke with AFCEA Bethesda’s “A Night for the Children” Gala Co-Chair Dave McClure, of Veris Group. He discussed his involvement with the organization, the event’s networking opportunities and why members of the community should help support the gala’s three beneficiaries.

Joe Brock of Pragmatics also offered his insight on how recompete win rates lead to long-term industry success, keeping clients happy and the most important industry trends to follow this year.

In Executive Moves and Board Appointments, John Dvorak is now Triple-i’s Chief Technology Officer, Michael Kleeblatt is Amyx Inc.’s Vice President of Business Development, Philip Nolan is the new CEO of Camber Corporation and Daniel Muse is now Sevatec Inc.’s CFO.

It was a big week in the Mergers & Acquisitions front, MAXIMUS will acquire Acentia for $300 million in all-cash transaction; Spectrum Systems – Emtec Federal acquired LTI DataComm; and SAIC will acquire Scitor Corp. for $790 million.
