It was a good day to be a chief financial officer (CFO) Monday evening at the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) Greater Washington Technology CFO awards held at the Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner.

The 18th annual Awards of its kind, the banquet recognized financiers and CFOs who have invested expertise to promote the region’s technology community.

Ron Kaiser, a Board member for the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), also received the Michael G. Devine Hall of Fame Award at the ceremony for having contributed to the area’s technology business community throughout his years.

    Find the winners below:

Private Company CFO of the Year: Bill Davis, Blackboard – NVTC recognized Davis for his demonstrated efforts to redefine the strategy at Blackboard, an enterprise technology company known for its education software developments, to ultimately save the company an estimated $20 million in annual costs and better align the company with the markets it serves. Davis also leads the company’s mergers and acquisitions strategy and prior to his role at Blackboard served as CFO at Allscripts Healthcare Solutions.

Public Company CFO of the Year: David Walker, MAXIMUS – Walker has 25 years financial management experience under his belt and has led the finance organization at MAXIMUS as CFO since 2006. Prior to joining the for-profit privatizing company, he led LCC International as senior vice president, CFO and controller.

Emerging Growth CFO of the Year: Robert “Bob” Aldrich, Parature – Aldrich leads Parature’s financial, administrative and business operations, bringing 25 years leadership experience to the provider of cloud-based customer service software that was acquired for $100 million by Microsoft in January. Before joining Parature, a company launched in 2000, he served as SVP and CFO for Q.Know Technologies, Inc. — an enterprise software company.

Large Company of the Year: John Hartley, SAIC – Hartley runs SAIC’s financial strategies, operations and processes as both executive vice president and CFO of the $4-billion technology and engineering company. Before taking on those roles, he served as corporate controller and principle accounting officer at SAIC.

Financier of the Year: Tony Florence, New Enterprise Associates – Florence concentrates on investments in the Internet and software sectors as general partner and co-leader of NEA’s Venture Growth Equity investment practice. He is also a director at Care.com, Moda Operandi, Cvent, Edmondo and EverFi and has involved himself in a slew of NEA’s venture growth equity portfolio companies.

Michael G. Devine Hall of Fame Award: Ron Kaiser – Kaiser is a 30-year public and private finance, accounting and operations management industry veteran with experience serving as both CFO and chief executive for companies in the IT, life sciences and high tech manufacturing sectors. He’s stood as CFO at the helm during six initial public offerings totaled above $1.7 billion and raising more than $400 million on initial valuations.
