Jason Levin, of Ready, Set, Launch, LLC, career and outplacement coaching, sat down with members of WashingtonExec’s Millennial Leadership Development Council for its final roundtable of 2016 to discuss managing relationships with mentors, the three types of mentorships, and how to identify potential mentors.
In the search for a potential mentor, Levin explained to the council a good starting point is writing out 10 individuals who could potentially impact your career in a positive way. Levin then showed the group a number of different strategies for staying in touch with those individuals. Levin also emphasized looking within your company’s management team for someone who can offer some guidance through your industry.
Levin also explained the importance of developing three different types of mentorships in your professional career: classic, peer to peer, and reverse. In developing all three types of mentorships, an individual is able to have a well-rounded base of knowledge going forward in his or her career.
