Mark Maglin
Vice President, Cybersecurity Services for Defense and Intelligence, ECS
“Vince Lombardi said: ‘Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence.’ I always strive to push myself and my team just a bit further, to continuously improve,” said Mark Maglin.
He’s most proud of his Army Endpoint Security Solution team, which has been in the trenches helping the Army transform into a zero trust architecture. That work is part of ECS’ ongoing mission of helping the Army defend its 750,000 endpoints by providing managed service operations and enhancing the platform’s capabilities.
ECS has been proud to be a key part of that mission for years, as AESS remains the Army’s first and only true managed security service. Moving forward, the AESS team is focused on testing and incorporating new technologies, developing and recommending new security policies and doctrine, and training the next generation of cyber warriors. They’re always learning and giving that extra effort chasing perfection.
“Under Mark’s leadership, ECS has become a trusted force multiplier for Army Cyber Command: delivering advanced, scalable solutions that directly strengthen our national defense,” said Peter Santighian, senior vice president of defense and intel at ECS. “Mark and his teams’ commitment to NatSec mission success continues to drive ECS’ reputation as a premier partner to the U.S. government in the cybersecurity domain.”
Why Watch
2025 is a year of rapid change, both in technology and policy. As DOD focuses on accelerating transformation and reforming acquisition, Maglin’s team is focused on both the now — defending networks with what they have today against nation-state threat actors — and a future of continuous innovation.
Maglin and his team are always learning, evaluating new and emerging technologies — including AI and quantum computing — and exploring applications for customers’ missions.
“If you see something, say something,” Maglin said. “Cybersecurity is all about threat data. We have to increase cyber threat intelligence at machine speed across the DoD, government, SLED, DIB, critical infrastructure, and commercial enterprises. The technology is there; policy is the only thing holding us up.”
Fun Fact: Maglin is an avid sailor with over 20,000 nautical miles under his belt, mostly from offshore racing. He sees sailing as the ultimate test of self-reliance, teamwork and endurance, requiring discipline even when exhausted. For him, the reward is simple: the quiet beauty of sunsets, sea life and time off the grid.
