Trowbridge CEO Karen Trowbridge presented the inaugural Most Inspiring STEM Executive, Best STEM Nonprofit and STEM Rising Star awards at WashingtonExec’s 2018 K-12 STEM Symposium last April. Trowbridge’s passion for promoting women in STEM dates back to launching her own company at only 26.

Most Inspiring STEM Executive winner Ann Swanson of CGI Federal develops, nurtures and guides the STEM workforce of tomorrow. The program she leads has served over 450 underrepresented students in STEM. Kavya Kopparapu, then a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, accepted the STEM Rising Star award. Kavya garnered national attention for Eyeagnosis, the smartphone app she created to automatically screen for diabetic retinopathy.

Lastly, Brian Moran accepted the Best STEM Nonprofit award on behalf of Boolean Girl, which he co-founded along with Ingrid Sanden and Sarah Eastman. Boolean Girl aims to narrow the gender gap in STEM through education and exposure to computer science and engineering.

WashingtonExec is hosting the annual K-12 STEM Symposium on March 30, 2019. The event is free and open to the public, but attendees are asked to register in advance.
