The finalists for WashingtonExec’s Chief Officer Awards were announced April 8, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person June 4.

Next is Amy Orzechowski, chief people officer at RealmOne and a finalist in the CHRO or HR Executive of the Year category. In this spotlight, she reflects on key milestones, shares what’s ahead and offers advice for those following a similar path.

What key achievements did you have in 2024/2025?

In 2024 and 2025, I focused on strengthening employee engagement and retention at RealmOne by implementing targeted initiatives that fostered a supportive and people-centric culture. One of the most significant achievements was the development of programs designed to enhance employee connection and job satisfaction, despite the challenges posed by industry uncertainties. These efforts have contributed to improved retention rates and a more resilient, mission-focused team.

What are your primary focus areas going forward, and why are those so important to the mission?

My primary focus this next year is to continue strengthening employee retention through meaningful engagement. In a time of uncertainty within the industry, it’s essential for our employees to feel valued, respected, and connected to their impact on national security. By fostering a culture of support and recognition, we not only enhance job satisfaction but also strengthen our mission delivery by keeping talented, dedicated individuals committed to our cause.

What is your best career advice for those who want to follow in your footsteps?

Become a lifelong learner. Continuously building your skills and expanding your knowledge in your chosen field is essential for long-term success. The world around us is constantly evolving, and staying informed about new developments helps you better serve yourself, your team, and the mission you’re part of. Embrace change, seek growth opportunities, and never stop learning.

Fun Fact: What is something about you that most people do not know?

I’m passionate about spending time and exploring different locations with my two daughters. Whether it’s hiking, discovering new scenic spots, or just enjoying the journey together, these trips are a great way to recharge and make lasting memories.
