Dr. Lindsey Saul
Chief Data & Analytics Officer, Defense Logistics Agency
Dr. Lindsey Saul was named the Defense Logistics Agency’s first-ever chief data and analytics officer in July 2021, responsible for the implementation of the agency’s enterprisewide strategic data and analysis mission.
She first joined DLA as lead analytics strategist, and before that, she was branch chief for data and analysis for the Defense Department’s Non-medical Counseling Program Office.
In her current position, she oversees the development and implementation of federal regulations and DLA policies, while making sure all statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
Saul also serves as the principal advisor to the DLA chief information officer on strategy, oversight and management of the strategic data and analytics services programs, data protection and storage, data standards, predictive analytics, AI, machine learning and data science.
Why Watch
According to a NextGov article, data management within DLA was siloed, lacking a harmonious or shared process and data system standardization. At the time, Saul and her team were looking into gathering all critical data elements across the DLA, clean it and create a business data dictionary for developers.
More recently, MeriTalk reported that DLA launched a new data management division within the Office of the CDAO to deliver valuable insights. The agency relies on logistics data as a strategic asset, and this new division aims to improve data-driven decision-making and national readiness.
