It is with deep sorrow we learned the death of James “Jim” Obendorfer.
After his service in the U.S. Army, Obendorfer spent 32 years in the Federal Systems Division of IBM. He then created his own consulting business supporting the federal government and government contractors until 2016. He served on the AFCEA board and was the vice chairman of IAC.
Obendorfer was — and always will be — recognized as a leader in the industry. FCW twice named him to its list of top 100 IT executives in government and industry.
In the words of Larry Rosenfeld, CEO at Sage Communications: “There is much to be said about Jim. But to sum it up, he was a true patriot, dedicated to making government work better, and a wonderful human being overall. One of the nicest guys in the federal ecosystem.”
Obendorfer was 86 at the time of his death.
Our deepest condolences go to his family at this time.

Such a fine man and a dear friend. Jim will be deeply missed in AFCEA and I am sure by all who had the pleasure to work with him over the many years.
Very saddened by the passing of this great human being. From his early days at IBM and later as a consultant to our industry, Jim was a trusted and honorable individual who you could always go to for advice and counsel. He is still today a mentor to many including me and he will never be forgotten for his service to our country and our industry. Larry Bradley
