Serco Inc. has been awarded a $21.3 million contract to provide roadside emergency support for the Texas Department of Transportation.
Serco will manage Safety Service Patrol services delivered across 310 miles of roadway in Austin, Texas, helping to speed incident responses and improve driver safety during traffic incidents, the company said.
Serco will use a fleet of 24 vehicles to provide roadside support on interstate highways, and TxDOT has the option to increase the number of vehicles up to 52, if it chooses to expand route coverage within the contracted roadways, Serco said.
“Serco is proud to have the opportunity to support the Texas Department of Transportation with roadside incident response services,” said Dave Dacquino, Serco chairman and CEO. “With a strong focus on the Transportation market segment, we will bring best-in-class services and high quality workforce management to support this important safety program for the Austin District.”
The contract has a 3-year base period worth $10.5 million, and three 1-year option periods. The contract’s value would be $21.3 million if all options are exercised.
Serco recently won a separate TxDOT contract to manage freeway operations in Austin’s Combined Transportation, Emergency & Communications Center.
