United Through Reading (UTR) will hold its 2nd Annual Tribute to Military Families Gala at 6:30 p.m. May 20, 2015, at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. The gala will celebrate military families who have forged meaningful connections through the read aloud experience and give recognition to the corporate, public policy and military leaders whose vision and support have been vital to UTR’s mission delivery.
Awards will be presented to Birdies for the Brave and to U.S. Representative Joe Wilson (R-SC), along with a presentation to the men and women of the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group for their usage and support of the program.
Last year’s inaugural event raised nearly $370,000 and featured keynote speakers Gen. James Amos, the 35th Commandant of the Marine Corps, and his wife Bonnie Amos, who shared stories of how they have been “United Through Reading.” The Hon. Mike Rogers (AL-3), the Hon. Susan Davis (CA-53), the Chaplain community of the U.S. military and BAE Systems, Inc. were also celebrated.
UTR offers military service members the opportunity to be video-recorded reading storybooks to their children at home from 200 locations around the world.
Individual tickets are $250. Click here to register. For more information, call 877-822-0386 or email tributetomilitaryfamilies@utr.org.
