MacAulay-Brown Inc. (MacB) President and CEO Sid Fuchs served as a guest lecturer at George Mason University (GMU) on Feb. 14 on the importance of developing a strategic network and the power of leadership.

Fuchs explained to more than 30 graduate students of the University’s Master of Science in Secure Information Systems degree program that a powerful network requires certain guiding principles.

“Look at your network as a tangible asset with real value and power,” Fuchs said to the students. “But more important, understand that building relationships – and everything in life – comes down to trust, service and providing value. It’s not about what you can get. It’s about what you can give. That is how you build a powerful, long-lasting network.”

“Sid’s approach to networking and dynamic presentation style are truly unique,” GMU Professor of Psychology and Management Chair, Management Area Rich Klimoski said. “The students were particularly interested in his counsel on how to balance the breadth and depth of relationships, which is not easy to do. As mid-career professionals in the cybersecurity sector, our students could easily see the applicability of the guidance being offered. Having examples from Sid’s book also was very helpful by way of illustrating his points. The session could have easily gone on for several more hours.”
