On Saturday, March 31, 2012 the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society 25th Annual Leukemia Ball raised over $3 million dollars towards blood cancer research.
The black- tie event, held at the Washington Convention Center, included a four-course dinner, performances by Sinbad the Comedian, the band Foreigner, as well as both silent and live auctions. This year’s Leukemia Ball, DC’s largest non-political black-tie event, had over 2,000 Virginia, DC, and Maryland private and public sector executives in attendance.
The 2012 Leukemia Ball Chairman was Robin Lineberger, CEO of Deloitte Federal Services. Lineberger interviewed with WashingtonExec earlier this year to discuss his decision to chair the ball as well as why the evening event is critical in funding research for a cure.
Jim Davis, Executive Vice President, General Council and Secretary of the Human Genome Sciences, the 2012 Leukemia Ball Co-Chairman and Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) survivor, was also in attendance. Davis gave WashingtonExec his advice to those currently battling Leukemia as well as what he believes is the underlying message of the Leukemia Ball in an exclusive interview on WashingtonExec.
The $3 million raised by the 2012 Leukemia Ball marks a total of $45 million raised for blood cancer research in 25 years by the Leukemia Ball.
