Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) announced Monday that it has won a $1.9 billion prime award from the United States Air Force (USAF).

The multi-award, indefinite-deliver-indefinitie quantity (IDIQ) contract, which has a five-year period of performance, is designed to offer both design and engineering services in support of the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), and other agencies within the Department of Defense (DoD).

The AFMC performs research, development, testing and evaluation, and provides the acquisition management services and logistics support integral to readying Air Force weapon systems for combat.

Under the contract, SAIC will provide design and engineering services as required, namely: new design, technical documentation, technology refresh, diminishing material and manufacturing, environmental improvement, and productivity, efficiency and cost saving efforts.  SAIC is not the only corporation vying for task orders under the contract.  Approximately 26 other prime contractors are also competing for the orders.

Glenn San Giacomo, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager, said his corporation’s leadership anticipates a fruitful partnership with AFMC.

“We look forward to providing the AFMC with design and engineering services to improve system life cycle cost, operational life, performance, sustainment, maintainability and support and safety and environmental friendliness,” said San Giacomo.
