I got to know Carleton over the past 5 years in a business capacity; he was always someone I greatly admired and it was always a treat when I ran into him at different beltway events.
Two years ago, Carleton sat with my wife and I as our guest at the 2009 Kidney Ball. Before we knew it, Carleton and his wife Dona had purchased a dog as a part of the event. Brie, a bichon frise, was their first dog and I am fairly certain the pair had not intended on bringing home a puppy from the Ball. The whole evening was full of laughs, thanks to Carleton’s spot on humor and their new, unexpected pet.
Every time I would see Carleton I always felt a bit guilty because he now had a dog to take care of because of me. He was such a nice and generous person and will be missed by so many people in the government contracting business.
I know Carleton has had a big impact on the Washington government contracting community; I asked some of his friends and colleagues to say a few words.
“I had the pleasure of getting to know Carleton over the past several years through the government contracting community. Though not close colleagues, I always appreciated how positively upbeat he was, the charm and grace he had in his interactions with me and the generosity of spirit he always seemed to have in his willingness to lend a hand and give back to our community. In losing Dan Bannister, we lost a part of our rich history, and in now losing Carleton, we’ve lost part of our heart. He will be deeply missed.”
Donna Morea, CGI and Jeff Chandler:
“We’ve known Carleton since the 1980’s when, as an attorney, he represented AMS. Like so many others, we considered Carleton a dear friend. With Carleton, it was always about you, your company, or a great cause – never about him. He recently became a fan of our online olive oil business – he became our best local salesman! He is irreplaceable.”
“My relationship with Carleton began as one of business colleagues but developed into a friendship based on trust and respect. Carleton was proud of his family, appreciated his friends and was confident yet humble in his experience. He was a man we can all admire and should strive to emulate.”
“In the six years I had known Carleton, he made a huge positive impact on me, my family, INDUS, and all of our staff at INDUS. Carleton was a great lawyer and a very successful businessman. He was a mentor to all of us and I benefited from Carleton’s experience in growing mid-tier Government contracting firms. More importantly, Carleton was a great friend and his positive spirit and optimism was infectious. We all will miss him.”
Bob Dinkel, Pierce Capital Partners:
“From our initial encounter while at CA just after the Cullinet acquisition (1989), Carleton is fondly remembered as a down to earth business person at Sysorex who focused on common sense solutions. (if it doesn’t work ..then fix it!) He enjoyed life and catching-up with business colleagues at the Tysons Silver Diner counter where we frequently dined over breakfast. Great person who I truly miss.”
Brian Leung, ARRAY Information Technology:
“It was my privilege to know Carleton Jones and work with him in the past. I had learned a lot from him. His sense of humor, singing, intelligence, and friendship will be missed by many.”
“From being a lawyer at Shaw Pittman to a government industry CEO! What a career, what a genuine, decent, honest person! It restored your faith and made you feel good to watch him succeed!”
