Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) Principal Dr. Evan Glazer will serve as one of the 2016 K-12 STEM Symposium keynote speakers for the March 12 event.
The theme for the 2016 program is “Opportunities in STEM.”
Glazer was honored at last year’s STEM Symposium by WashingtonExec Founder and CEO JD Kathuria.
“I was honored to recognize Dr. Evan Glazer at our STEM Symposium,” Kathuria said. “Dr. Glazer goes beyond his duties as a principal at TJ; he works to ensure every child has an opportunity to pursue STEM activities regardless of what school they attend.”
“My primary professional responsibilities are to serve TJ’s students, staff and parents by facilitating the implementation of an innovative curriculum through teacher-led efforts and government, university, and corporate partnerships,” Glazer said earlier this year in an interview with WashingtonExec. “In addition, I work to make the school a resource to the broader community through outreach and extension programs.”
“We have STEM enrichment activities for elementary, middle and high school students via the outreach programs our students volunteer at [such as]the STEMbassadors. These programs are possible through generous time commitments of students, parents, teachers and our partners. Our students sign-up to serve as assistants or run stations at one of our science nights, family math night, Math Count teams, robotics competitions or serve as mentors or teachers assistants to evening, weekend and summer programs that are STEM-related throughout all Virginia. There are a lot of additional effort put in by our clubs and our teachers to make our school a resource for kids all over Northern Virginia.”
Scheduled panel speakers include TJHSST senior Kritika Singh, a malaria researcher and the Founder and CEO of Malaria Free World, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization aimed to raise awareness about malaria and foster research.
