In addition to the winners of the GovCon Awards, Dr. Ernst Volgenau last night received special acknowledgement getting inducted into the Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards Hall of Fame. Volgenau is the chairman founder and former CEO of SRA International.

After retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1976 as colonel, Volgenau founded SRA International two years later. The company grew to have thousands of employees and went public in May 2002 and then private again in 2011. Volgenau served as president and CEO until 2004, and as chairman of the board until 2013.

Volgenau also taught graduate classes at various colleges, including American University and George Washington University. He earned a doctorate in engineering from UCLA and is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.

Published in November 2014, Volgenau also wrote “Geeks, Mush Heads and the IT Revolution: How SRA International Achieved Success Over Nearly Four Decades.”
