Altamira Technologies Corp. will be one of the key sponsors for the fourth annual K-12 STEM Symposium, held 9 a.m.-3 p.m., March 25 at the Nysmith School in Herndon, Virginia.

The event represents the largest K-12 STEM Symposium in Northern Virginia and brings together students, parents and teachers with industry experts to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and impactful careers.

“As the K-12 STEM Symposium enters its fourth year, Altamira is proud to highlight the achievements of women in STEM professions,” Altamira Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer Jonathan Moneymaker said. “Inspiring young women to become engaged in STEM-related activities and following careers has long been a personal passion of ours. The success we’ve seen as a nation over the past handful of years has been amazing but there is more we can do. Our support enables future scientists, engineers and mathematicians to pursue groundbreaking careers and strive toward innovation.”

Altamira will build an interactive exhibit showcasing “Girls in STEM.” The company’s designated wing at the event will recognize the contributions of leading women in STEM fields and encourage young women to meaningfully engage with STEM subjects through educational programs and activities.

Altamira will host a variety of activities though its anchor exhibit to engage all attendees through a cutting edge “Hack my Drone” hands-on project.

At the event, elementary, middle and high school students will be encouraged to participate in activities featuring robotics teams, flight simulator competitions, 3-D printers, and much more. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about computer coding, space, drones, connected cars, and health care technology. Beyond the interactive exhibits, speakers will illuminate the path toward STEM professions by discussing careers in industry, government and academia.
