2014 – WashingtonExec Annual Market Outlook Series

As we turn the page on 2013, we look forward to a new year and new opportunities for innovation and growth in the government contracting community. This past year we experienced budget sequestration, a 16-day-long government shutdown, and a perpetually increasing focus on cyber security and healthcare IT.

WashingtonExec reached out to those most knowledgeable and experienced individuals in the federal contracting space. We asked executives in and around the beltway for insight regarding where they see the government contracting community headed in 2014. Topics discussed include M&A activity, cloud computing, healthcare IT, defense, mobility, and more.

Jay Sunny Bajaj, founder and CEO of Digital Management, Inc. (DMI):

As we move into 2014 and beyond, Government contracting will continue to see increased stressors from shrinking budgets due to sequestration, uncertainty related to continued shutdown threats and increased competitiveness for all contracts.  While the challenge will be high, it is a time where companies that combine cost effective, innovative solutions with nimble delivery can excel.  I expect in this environment we’ll see increased M&A activity with larger companies driving acquisition strategies to bolster shrinking revenue availability given reduced budgets.

Ultimately, an increasingly collaborative approach between government and industry will lead to new efficiencies and quality public services delivery. Merging the best of public and private sector tools and techniques, this collaboration will incorporate the best of new data analytic solutions, service delivery concepts, and mobile technology to allow agencies to more fully meet their mission requirements while managing in an environment of doing more with less.
