The Biden administration will have a tall order of priorities, but one of them should be digital infrastructure modernization, according to one industry expert.

WashingtonExec recently sat down with Jay Bellissimo, U.S. general manager of IBM public and federal market, to discuss IBM CEO Arvind Krishna’s letter to President-elect Joe Biden.

The letter covered five key areas: promotion of inclusion, opportunity and sustainability, fueling technology and innovation, building trust through precision regulation, modernizing America’s digital infrastructure and maintaining U.S. leadership in trade.

An expert in technological innovation and digital infrastructure modernization, Bellissimo emphasized the latter’s importance for the next administration. When updating infrastructure, the infrastructure and its applications are imperative to ensuring value for organizations and the citizens they serve, he said.

A main focus for IBM is the hybrid cloud and its architecture. Many large organizations operate on decades-old systems, making it especially necessary to refresh and move to the hybrid cloud. A shift to the hybrid cloud will be the most important way large organizations can transform at the pace needed to stay ahead and ensure operation of mission critical applications, according to Bellissimo.

The Biden administration’s adoption of these technologies will be vital, “because we’ve always been a leader as a country in innovation, and it will give us an opportunity to continue to use these technologies and do it in a very accelerated way,” Bellissimo said.
