Nonprofit health care provider Inova announced its Regional Dean and Vice President of Corporate Health Services Dr. Craig Cheifetz has been awarded the Laureate award from the Virginia chapter of the American College of Physicians.
As the most prestigious award the chapter presents, the Laureate honors fellows and masters of the college who have demonstrated an abiding commitment to excellence in medical care, education, research and service to their community, chapter and ACP.
Cheifetz has been part of Inova and Inova Fairfax Hospital medical staff for more than 23 years. He has served a total of 10 years on the ACP Virginia Chapter Governor’s Council, from 2003-2010, and then again from 2015-2018.
Cheifetz is a natural leader who meets the highest ideals of the practice of medicine, said Inova Health System President and CEO Dr. J. Stephen Jones.
“His clinical expertise is enriched by his passion for health education and caring for the whole person,” Jones added. “We are proud to have him lead our corporate medicine program and be recognized with this award for his dedication to his patients and our community.
As a member of the Virginia Governor’s Council, Cheifetz started the Council of Young Physicians in Virginia in 2007. In 2010, the national ACP awarded him the Walter J. McDonald Award for Young Physicians.
Cheifetz earned his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and completed his internal medicine training at Georgetown School of Medicine.
