In this virtual video panel series, WashingtonExec sits down with industry and public sector leaders to discuss current challenges, innovations and initiatives top of mind across the government IT landscape.

WashingtonExec’s Amanda Ziadeh sits down with Angela Cough and Joe Rohner to discuss the makings and evolution of an artificial intelligence workforce best suited for government’s critical needs.

Cough is special advisor to the chief digital and AI officer and the chief of digital talent management under the office of the Chief Digital and AI Officer, under the Office of the Secretary of Defense in the Defense Department. Rohner serves as vice president and head of AI adoption, talent and education in Booz Allen’s Chief Technology Office.

In this panel, Cough and Rohner outline key AI workforce roles, highlight the importance of diversity and address challenges the government faces in attracting AI talent. They explain how mission and public service are used to draw skilled professionals.

They also tackle the gap between the rapid pace of AI advancements and outdated industry and government policies such as job classifications that hinder effective recruitment. Cough and Rohner propose solutions to build an AI workforce capable of meeting critical mission demands.
