    Dave Howard, ECS

    Dave Howard

Executive Director of Cybersecurity Operations, ECS

Dave Howard recently led a modernization effort for ECS’ cybersecurity program, implementing a “threat-driven security” approach. This initiative integrated intelligence-led security automation, advanced detection engineering, proactive threat hunting and vulnerability assessment. Throughout this effort, Howard spearheaded transformative shifts, enabling ECS to anticipate cyber threats, focusing on those most relevant and damaging to the organization and their managed security clients.

“I’ve been involved in the security field for over 20 years, and my passion will always center around the people I’m privileged to lead,” Howard said. “I wouldn’t be where I’m at today without the brilliant, mission-focused teams supporting and teaching me along the way.”

    Why Watch

In today’s increasingly complex cyber threat landscape, adopting a threat-driven security approach is imperative. Howard’s proactive strategy emphasizes anticipating and mitigating potential risks before they escalate into damaging compromises. By enabling threat intelligence and next-gen technologies as a driver for cyber defense, Howard and his team help organizations enhance their ability to proactively detect and respond to emerging threats, minimizing the impact on operations and business reputation.

“I firmly believe that effective leadership in the cyber operations domain is as much about fostering a culture of resilience, innovation and continuous improvement as it is about mitigating threats,” said Steve Hittle, chief information officer at ECS. “Under Dave’s guidance, we confidently safeguard our digital assets while embracing opportunities for growth and innovation.”

Fun Fact: Howard started his career as a paratrooper with the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, working under and learning from exceptional leaders. To give back, he enjoys mentoring aspiring cyber professionals and military veterans who are transitioning into the technology field.
