Next is Marc Zoellner, chief growth officer at The Building People, and finalist in the Private Company Chief Growth Officer (Annual Revenue Greater than $20M and Less than $100M) category. Here, he shares key achievements, focus areas going forward, career advice and more.
What key achievements did you have in 2023?
While I am humbled to be recognized as a Chief Growth Officer finalist, I must emphasize that this achievement and the achievement of our growth as a firm would not have been possible without the commitment and dedication of our Executive Leadership Team, Growth, Delivery, and Operations Teams and Board of Advisors.
Throughout 2023, our Growth Team worked tirelessly to drive growth and attract new clients to The Building People. Their strategies, relentless pursuit of excellence, and collaborative spirit were instrumental in achieving our objectives. From developing targeted marketing campaigns to forging strategic partnerships, each member of the Growth Team played a vital role in our success.
Moreover, I must acknowledge the invaluable support demonstrated by our Executive Leadership Team, Delivery and Operations Team, and Board of Advisors ⏤ all under the leadership of Lawrence Melton, CEO of The Building People. Their guidance, vision, and support provided the foundation upon which our growth initiatives flourished. Their willingness to embrace change, empower our team, and foster a culture of collaboration were key drivers of our achievements in 2023.
As I reflect on the past year, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to lead such a talented and dedicated Growth Team and to be part of an exemplary Executive Leadership Team. Our greatest achievement in 2023 was not only the significant growth we experienced but also the bonds we forged, the challenges we overcame, and the lessons we learned together. I am truly proud of what we accomplished as a team, and I look forward to continued success in the future.
What are your primary focus areas going forward, and why are those so important to the mission?
The Building People’s primary focus areas going forward are strategically aligned with our core capabilities and the evolving needs of our clients. We recognize the shift in the workplace landscape brought about by the rise of the hybrid work environment. To this end, optimizing the workplace experience has become a pivotal focus area for us. We understand that the future of work demands flexibility, adaptability, and seamless integration of technology, buildings, and people. Our primary focus areas going forward ⏤ strengthening core capabilities, optimizing the workplace, and making buildings more efficient ⏤ are all deeply intertwined with our mission and values.
What is your best career advice for those who want to follow in your footsteps?
The most valuable advice I can offer for aspiring professionals is to cultivate a mindset rooted in responsibility, accountability, forgiveness and genuine goodwill. Celebrate achievements and recognize the efforts of colleagues, while also embracing constructive feedback and coaching for continuous improvement. Success thrives on commitment and collaboration, so make it a priority to align with others and work together towards shared goals. Transparency and clear communication are paramount; always ensure priorities are well understood. Additionally, don’t hesitate to vocalize your needs and extend a helping hand to those who may require assistance.
Fun Fact: What is something about you that most people do not know about?
Well, beneath the daily suit and tie (not so much the tie anymore) ⏤ I have been a professional drummer since the age of 15. Over the years I’ve had the privilege of touring the U.S., providing the back-beat to various studio projects, and presently, I’m performing with New Legacy Blues.
