Christian Hoff
Director of Federal Civilian and Health, Amazon Web Services
Over the past year, Christian Hoff’s team supported federal health clients such as the departments of Veterans Affairs and Health and Human Services and the Defense Health Agency with their cloud transition. This move enhanced research, innovation and customer experience. Hoff is proud of how AWS facilitated better data-sharing, scalability and cost savings. Furthermore, as clients broaden their scope beyond central IT, AWS is helping them fast-track modernization in areas like supply chain, data lakes and contact centers and providing access to advanced technologies like generative AI through services like Amazon Bedrock and CodeWhisperer.
“Christian and his team go above and beyond in support of federal government health care organizations, helping to drive actionable outcomes across agencies like VA, DHA, HHS, ACF, FDA, CMS, NIH and CDC as they deliver on their missions for the American people,” said Dave Levy, vice president of federal, nonprofit and global health care at AWS. “Inside of AWS, Christian champions his customers by bringing the best of what our company has to offer, helping them continually innovate and improve service delivery for our citizens.”
Why Watch
In 2023, Hoff’s team prioritizes facilitating cloud-based data analytics and AI/ML tools that support health care researchers and promote HIPAA and HITECH-compliant scientific discoveries. The cloud helps health care agencies meet data-sharing requirements and policies associated with federally-funded research.
AWS this year introduced specialized services tailored for health and life sciences, including the AWS Health Data Portfolio. This portfolio aligns dedicated AWS Services with government health care mission needs. For instance, AWS HealthLake offers a comprehensive view of individual or patient health data, while AWS HealthOmics turns genomic and other omics data into actionable insights. Through generative AI and custom machine learning services, federal health care clients can seamlessly infuse advanced technologies into their current workflows, fast-tracking innovation and fostering new discoveries.
“There are plenty of trends we see across federal health care agencies, with customers migrating more and more workloads and taking advantage of innovation and new technologies, such as machine learning, edge computing, data sharing and high-performance computing,” Hoff said. “AWS is helping federal health care agencies adopt cloud and AI/ML technologies to advance their missions. We certainly encourage all federal health care agencies to learn more about how these approaches could help them add powerful mission capabilities.”
