The Women’s Club of Great Falls invites you to dust off your white suits, grab your shades and come out to the River Bend Golf and Country Club for a night of “Miami Vice”-themed fun on May 6. The event will feature music, dancing, live and silent auctions and more.
Proceeds will go toward raising scholarship funds for nontraditional students attending George Mason University.
“As someone who dropped out of high school and later started my master’s program at George Washington University as a single mother, the mission of our board to support nontraditional students and our new partnership with George Mason University’s Early Identification Program for high school students personally resonates with me,” said Jackie Harding, executive vice president of business operations for CACI who serves in her personal capacity as a member of the foundation’s board.
“My passion for education and continuous learning has always opened doors for me and been key to my success. I’m proud to serve on a board that shares my passion and supports educational goals for others.”
Last year, thanks to high sponsor support, the club increased scholarship amounts from $1,500 to $2,500 per student. It also created a partnership with George Mason University’s Early Identification Program to provide funding for one student to participate in the program.
The George Mason EIP program works with first-generation students from the eighth grade through their senior year of high school as a college preparatory program to support college success and career exploration and ensure students are ready for their future.
Harding said the foundation is grateful to the sponsors and donors who have provided support over the years. Everyone is welcome to attend, sponsor or donate at the Annual Spring Event for the Women’s Club of Great Falls Scholarship Fund.
“We are excited about this program and hope to expand our sponsorship this year,” Harding said.
The Women’s Club of Great Falls Scholarship Fund was established in 1982 when the organization recognized a need to provide financial assistance to students pursuing degrees in higher education.
Scholarships are awarded to students who reside in Northern Virginia and attend George Mason University or the ADVANCE Program, Mason’s partnership with Northern Virginia Community College that provides a seamless transfer pathway to a 4-year degree.
The club provided scholarships to 13 students last year and partnered with the GMU EIP to fund the cost of a student entering their program. For more on the foundation and scholarship awardees, click here.
