The finalists for WashingtonExec’s Chief Officer Awards were announced March 17, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person May 10.
Next is CEO finalist in the Public Company category Tammer Olibah, president and CEO of Hexagon US Federal. Here, he talks veteran support, go-to-market strategies, CMMI and more.
What key achievements did you have in 2022/2023?
One key achievement I had in the 2022 and 2023 timeframe is leading the efforts for getting Hexagon US Federal appraised at Level 3 of ISACA’s Capability Maturity Model Integration. This is a great example of our company’s commitment to our U.S. federal government customers’ missions and requirements while also increasing their confidence in our ability to deliver on large and complex government programs.
I would say that my most impressive achievement over this period is the rollout of the first phase of our company’s digital transformation through which we are undertaking a substantial overhaul of our IT infrastructure and back-office systems that streamlines integration among many legacy disconnected systems, creating valuable insights.
The end result will be a modernized and more robust corporate IT infrastructure that improves resilience and provides our staff with powerful integrated tools that improve our leads-to-cash process and support continued growth of the business.
What are you most proud of having been a part of in your current organization?
One thing I am most proud of is being part of the formal establishment of our U.S. veterans employee resource group ⏤ VALOR (Veterans and Allies: Leadership, Outreach, Resources) in 2022. This program provides a discussion forum for veterans to interact and support each other while also providing a way to formally recognize and celebrate our veteran staff members.
Hexagon US Federal relies heavily on our veteran employee staff across the organization to be role models, leaders and customer advocates, and VALOR is a testament to our commitment to their professional and personal development. VALOR extends to those allies of veterans, such as those employees that have veteran family members.
Another indicator of our growing commitment to veterans is Hexagon US Federal becoming a V3 (Virginia Values Veterans) certified company in 2022. This is the latest cultural transformation I’ve been proud to lead at Hexagon US Federal, improving the employee experience.
What are your primary focus areas going forward, and why are those so important to the future of the nation?
A key focus area in 2023 and beyond is an improved go-to-market strategy for our public safety and emergency dispatch solutions. We are combining those solutions with other great Hexagon sensor technologies and packaging them in a robust and comprehensive All-Hazards framework, which enhances an organization’s ability to better prepare for and respond to incidents, and improve resilience across their operations through five mission areas: protection, prevention, response, recovery and mitigation.
Another primary area of focus is continual improvement of our solutions for helping defense, intelligence and public safety organizations improve their situational awareness. Reliable and accurate situational awareness is critical, yet many operators and first responders find that their information may be out-of-date or incomplete, hampering their ability to carry out operations safely and effectively.
For example, Hexagon US Federal’s Aerial Reconnaissance Tactical Edge Mapping System (ARTEMIS) addresses these issues by filling this critical information gap with high-resolution imagery collected by a small, lightweight UAS that is processed and visualized on a laptop-based ground station.
Additionally, Hexagon’s industry leading assured positioning, navigation and timing (APNT) technology is proving to be increasingly important for establishing resilience against cyber threats to our military and civilian aircraft, ships and ground vehicles.
