Managing Director, ESG & Sustainability Services, Grant Thornton LLP

Marjorie Whittaker shifted her focus from providing audit services to developing Grant Thornton LLP’s ESG and Sustainability practice. This change aligned with her personal goal of creating a better world for her son, which also became her professional goal.

Whittaker, who was one of Grant Thornton’s first full-time professionals dedicated to ESG services, now serves as the firm’s ESG and sustainability reporting and compliance leader. She applies her nearly two decades of experience in audit, SEC reporting, capital markets and IPOs to deliver high-quality solutions to her clients.

    Why Watch

With regulators set to introduce new ESG requirements, her team is committed to designing and implementing sustainability solutions that keep pace with the rapidly evolving landscape.

“Our approach to ESG incorporates the unique needs of each client, while aligning with global sustainability standards,” she said. “We strive to deliver innovative and practical solutions that help our clients communicate their value proposition and provide reliable information to stakeholders. It’s a valuable form of reporting that cannot be overlooked.”

The direction of ESG reporting is coming into focus, said Jim Burton, the national managing partner of Grant Thornton’s ESG and Sustainability practice.

“It’s important to understand how your business will be impacted and determine a path to successful reporting compliance,” he said. “That’s exactly what Marjorie does. She has a keen ability to explain complex topics. Under her leadership, our clients are better prepared to navigate the shifting terrain ahead.”

Whittaker’s team thinks her son would agree.
