Scott Nycum, GDIT

Scott Nycum

Vice President, Inclusion, Diversity & Giving, GDIT

Scott Nycum’s biggest recent achievement was equipping 3,000 leaders companywide with foundational inclusive leadership skills. They designed a custom framework and workshop, built around GDIT values, to help leaders establish a game plan to be inclusive and equitable in everyday actions and decisions.

Across eight months, Nycum and his team conducted 150 small group, coaching-based workshops, with real-world case examples to explore the challenges and opportunities to bring courageous, accountable leadership to life. The workshops served as a catalyst to follow-on micro-learning GDIT issues on a recurring basis, called “Five Minutes to Inclusive Leadership.”

“I believe the words we choose matter in advancing organizations to be as diverse, equitable and inclusive as possible,” Nycum said. “At GDIT, I’m proud that we have evolved our thinking from this work being a ‘journey’ to focusing on a ‘sustained pursuit.’ The latter gives us urgency and agency to make values-based decisions to make GDIT the strongest it can be from within, in our industry, and in our communities.”

Why Watch

Looking ahead, Nycum is focused on bringing leadership development, mentoring and visibility to GDIT’s high-potential, rising leader population. GDIT has higher levels of diverse talent in middle ranks, compared to senior-most ranks. To bring greater visibility and readiness to all rising leaders, Nycum and his team are deploying quarterly, diverse-by-design cohorts to address a current business priority while leaders level up their skills and gain exposure to the GDIT executive team and their priorities.

“We are putting the power of diverse teams to work in solving our most critical challenges to our future success and building a diverse pipeline of talent to lead us forward,” Nycum said.
