    John Steckel, AMERICAN SYSTEMS

    John Steckel

Vice President of Corporate Development, AMERICAN SYSTEMS

As vice president of corporate development, John Steckel fine-tuned AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ business development efforts to be ingrained in the company’s corporate culture. This resulted in business development being viewed as a function and not as a “department.”

“John treats business development as a verb, not a noun, and that philosophy has translated into more collaboration across AMERICAN SYSTEMS, resulting in record contract wins for us,” said Peter Smith, AMERICAN SYSTEMS president and CEO.

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is a 100% employee-owned company with strong cultural beliefs around being engaged as co-owners. Building the belief that business development is everyone’s job was not that difficult. Buy-in across the company has led to record contract wins this year, and enthusiasm is high. Employee-owners understand business development is a great team sport to play.

“Saying BD is a team sport is easy,” Steckel said. “Doing BD as a team isn’t. It takes a lot of people from across the business working together with the goal of providing customers what they’re looking for at a price they expect.”

    Why Watch

This year is marked by AMERICAN SYSTEMS winning more opportunities than ever before. For the remainder of 2022, Steckel’s team is heavily focused on building upon the foundation it has created and setting itself up for a great 2023 and beyond.

“It’s been a tremendous year for us, but our focus is on the future and making sure we are in a position to replicate what we’ve done this year for many years to come,” Steckel said.
