Thomas Sasala says he believes data is a weapon of modern war-fighting, and as such, it must be ready for battle like all other weapons at the disposal of the Navy.

Sasala has overseen the creation of the Navy’s enterprise data and analytics platform called Jupiter. It allows all DON personnel to access, manipulate and exploit data for decision-making purposes and create a mission-relevant operational advantage in the modern war-fight.

As his team looks forward, it’s heavily focused on implementing effective data management, making clean and curated data available for use and leveraging data to measure effectiveness, influence decisions and support mission commanders across naval forces and the broader Defense Department.

“Modern war-fighting is completely dependent on having timely, accurate, understandable and trusted data available to commands at echelon at the speed of mission,” Sasala says.
