    Tom Naughton, Maximus

Over nearly two decades at Maximus, Tom Naughton has helped government improve health outcomes for millions of people.

Under his leadership, Maximus played an important role in supporting the government’s response to COVID-19. As the operator of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s main information line, Naughton was tasked with leading a massive ramp-up to answer the calls from citizens looking for information about how to keep their families safe. The success of this effort led to supporting CDC with helping citizens get their vaccination appointments scheduled.

In support of California’s workers compensation program, Naughton implemented new technology that enabled all documentation to be submitted online, where it was catalogued and assigned to a case reviewer. This reduced the processing time from months to hours, ultimately saving the state over $1 billion, and it led to a 95% reduction in opioid prescriptions.

    Why Watch

With the formation of Maximus Public Health, Naughton brought together experienced health experts helping public health agencies modernize their programs so they are better positioned to respond to a health crisis. His clear understanding of the citizen experience and the technology and process expertise required are helping prepare health agencies for the future.

With the recent acquisition of Veteran Evaluation Services, Naughton will also be focused on leveraging these new synergies to support the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Medical Disability Examination program, which provides care and compensation to veterans who have a disability from their service.
