Following a successful two-and-a-half years leading and growing LMI’s management advisory services, Christen Smith began leading LMI’s Health and Civilian Market in November 2020 with a mandate to lead strategic growth in the health space.
She had grown her previous group from 370 to 600 people through a combination of organic and inorganic growth, including establishing a new science and technology practice through the acquisition of The Tauri Group. Smith also developed and immediately began executing a strategic plan for LMI’s growth in federal health.
Most recently, Smith was key to LMI’s acquisition and integration of Suntiva, which furthered LMI’s strategic push into public health with customers like the Food and Drug Administration, the National Institutes of Health and the Agriculture Department.
“LMI has a 60-year history in logistics management, powerful capabilities in science and analytics, and a deep bench of health policy expertise,” Smith said. “Together with Suntiva’s transformational management solutions and strong performance with agencies like FDA and NIH, we’re positioned to make a big impact in the coming years in the public health arena.”
Against the backdrop of COVID-19, Smith worked with the rest of the LMI leadership team to navigate new business challenges, build resiliency into its operations and support and engage the workforce, ultimately contributing to LMI being ranked first among the largest businesses in The Washington Post’s Top Workplaces 2021.
Why Watch
In 2021, Smith and her team are focused on fulfilling their growth strategy for federal health. This includes continuing to deepen their impact in civilian health, where LMI has a 25-year history of partnership with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services supporting programs of national importance like Medicare Advantage and its predecessors, the Medicare Shared Savings Program and the Federally Facilitated Exchange. It also includes leveraging LMI’s acquisitions to continue growing in medical research and development, medical logistics and public health.
Smith is also focused on partnering with government health customers as they pivot to fulfill the priorities of the new administration and lead the country’s response to COVID-19 and future public health threats.
