The Biden administration announced April 12 it has nominated John “Chris” Inglis as the first national cyber director.

Inglis graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1976, and currently serves as a U.S. Naval Academy Robert and Mary M. Looker distinguished visiting professor for cyber studies, as a managing director at Paladin Capital and as commissioner on the U.S. Cyberspace Solarium Commission.

Inglis brings 41 years of federal service to the position. He retired from the Defense Department in 2014 as a brigadier general, and spent 28 years at the National Security Agency, where he served as deputy director. His military service includes 30 years in the Air Force and Air National Guard.

Inglis has degrees in engineering and computer science from Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University and the George Washington University.

President Joe Biden announced the nominations of other key administration leaders, including Christy Abizaid for director of National Counterterrorism Center at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence; Christine Wormuth for secretary of the Army; and Gil Cisneros for undersecretary of defense, personnel and readiness.
