Siemens’ Tony Hemmelgarn Joins Board of Directors

Tony Hemmelgarn, president and CEO of Siemens Digital Industries Software, has joined Siemens Government Technologies board of directors, the company announced Aug. 10.

Hemmelgarn is an experienced software industry executive, and has been with Siemens since 2001. Though the company’s Xcelerator software portfolio, companies can leverage digital twins that can provide new insights, opportunities and levels of automation to drive innovation.

Through Siemens’ SGT business, a special security agreement allows direct application of Siemens’ software for cleared government work, especially in aerospace and defense communities. Use cases include modeling and design of the nation’s most advanced military systems, like the Virginia- and Columbia-class submarines, to aircraft including the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, V-22 Osprey and the F/A-18 Hornet.

“With the increasingly complex interdependency of software and systems trusted for vital government missions, we are excited to have Tony bring his leadership, experience and board insights to SGT,” said Anne Altman, IBM’s long-time federal business leader and senior executive and SGT board chairman.

“Government leaders working at the crossroads of sustainment for legacy systems and rapid acceleration of new systems and production methodologies require an advanced software-driven digital value chain solution that Siemens is uniquely qualified to offer,” she added.

On the board, Hemmelgarn joins Altman, board chair; Bob Coutts, retired Lockheed Martin executive vice president; retired Army Lt. Gen. John Sylvester; and Axel Meier, chief financial officer for the Smart Infrastructure operating company of Siemens AG.
