Former U.S. Special Operations Command Chief Data Officer Dave Spirk has been tapped to serve in the same role at the Pentagon’s Office of the Chief Information Officer come June 22. He replaces Michael Conlin, who’s held that job since July 2018.
A Marine Corps veteran, Spirk will play a key role in carrying out DOD’s Digital Modernization Strategy. He “brings extensive experience and a thorough understanding of how data empowers joint, all-domain operations,” said DOD CIO Dana Deasy.
Spirk served as a Marine Corps intelligence specialist in Afghanistan and as chief of operations for the Cuba and Venezuela mission manager in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
Additionally, he worked as associate director of technology investment in the Secretary of the Air Force’s Concept Development and Management Office for Advanced Analytics and Technology Investment.
“I look forward to working with Dave as we create a strong data culture across the department,” Deasy said.
