Alison Harbrecht, GDITAlison Harbrecht, chief finance officer at General Dynamics Information Technology, has won WashingtonExec’s 2020 Chief Officer Award for Public Company CFO.

In its inaugural year, the Chief Officer Awards luncheon was held June 17 as a virtual live-streamed program to accommodate the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations about in-person events. Over 500 people watched as C-suite executives in both industry and government were recognized for their innovation, expertise, impact, and thought leadership.

Harbrecht has over 17 years with GDIT, where she manages financial planning, reporting, accounting, government compliance, project financial management and control.

Since joining GDIT in 2003, she’s held roles in finance, accounting and leadership. Most recently, Harbrecht served as staff vice president of investor relations, according to her LinkedIn. Before joining GDIT, Harbrecht held consulting positions at Navigant and Arthur Andersen.

During the award ceremony, Harbrecht explained her perspective on leadership.

“There have been several lessons that I’ve learned throughout the years that have shaped me as a leader,” she said. “The one I talk about most often is linked to the concept of being a servant leader. It is a phrase that I use often to help people understand my leadership style, and that is invest in each other’s success.”

Harbrecht has a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Virginia and is a certified public accountant in Virginia.
