Technical and engineering services provider Amentum has been awarded a cost plus fixed-fee contract with the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division worth $87 million

Amentum will provide systems engineering support to naval weapons systems and weapon control systems, and to warfare systems for ballistic missile and guided missile submarines and surface ships. Those systems include Aegis, Ship Self-Defense System, DDG-1000 Guided Missile Destroyers, Guided Missile Frigates and U.S. Coast Guard cutters.

The contract has one base year and four 1-year option periods, and primarily focuses on systems engineering.

“This highly technical engineering work covers submarine and surface ballistic missile support, as well as surface ships and other tactical Navy and Marine Corps programs, as well as cyberspace programs,” said Jill Bruning, executive vice president and general manager of Amentum’s Intelligence, System Engineering, Security, Services & Solutions Strategic Business Unit.

Amentum has supported the Strategic and Computing Department at Dahlgren for more than 40 years and has made significant investments there to attract and retain top technical and engineering talent.

“We also have significant training in model based systems engineering, cyber security and mission assurance and are looking forward to supporting the Navy’s needs in these areas,” Bruning added.

Plus, Amentum CEO John Vollmer said many of the company’s employees at Dahlgren have decades of engineering and operational experience in the Strategic Systems Program Office and on Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile programs.

“Our unique experience combined with our engineering and software tools allows us to offer real world solutions to complex and ever-changing combat system and fleet challenges,” Vollmer said.

Contract work will primarily be done at Dahlgren, Virginia; Dam Neck, Virginia; Washington Navy Yard; and Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Bruning said work on the contract has already underway.
