The Aerospace Corp. has been awarded its first direct contract from the National Nuclear Security Administration.

The $79 million contract supports NNSA’s mission to maintain U.S. nuclear deterrence as a cornerstone of national security and global stability.

“We remain deeply committed to continuing to support the future of our nation’s nuclear programs by partnering with NNSA to support critical nuclear deterrence missions,” said Edward Swallow, senior vice president of Aerospace’s Civil Systems Group.

“This direct contract strengthens the federally funded research and development center relationship with NNSA by leveraging the company’s technical capabilities across the nuclear enterprise that draws upon our 60 years of supporting National Security Space,” he said.

Aerospace has said it will provide systems engineering and integration support under the 5-year cost-plus-fixed-fee contract, as well as independent technical and programmatic analysis to support recapitalization of the nation’s nuclear capabilities for NNSA’s Office of Defense Programs and Office of Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation.

Aerospace has long supported independent reviews, assessments of life-extension programs, and surveillance of the nuclear weapons stockpile, along with warhead integration for the ground-based strategic deterrent. The company continues to support the Space-Based Nuclear Detonation Detection program, integrating NNSA components with the DOD Nuclear Detection System.
