NCI, Inc., a provider of advanced information technology solutions and professional services to U.S. federal government agencies, has announced it has been named the Payment Error Rate Measurement Review Contractor (PERM RC) as part of a five-year prime contract valued at $44 million with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Under the contract, NCI will perform claims review to support the national-level improper payment rates for Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which will be reported to Congress as required by the Improper Payments Elimination and Recovery Act of 2010.

“We are excited about this new award and honored to have the opportunity to further expand our 17-year partnership with CMS by supporting this critical program,” said Paul Dillahay, president and CEO of NCI. “This award is the result of our successful track record in measuring and reducing payment errors for the CMS Medicare program, as well as our team’s many years of hard work and dedication to fighting fraud, waste and abuse in entitlement programs. NCI understands the importance and integrity of these government health organizations and the invaluable services they provide to nearly 70 million Americans. We look forward to joining forces with CMS on this important work.”

In support of the effort, NCI will research state Medicaid and CHIP policies; request and collect medical records from providers; perform data processing and medical reviews of Medicaid and CHIP claims to determine if claims were paid correctly or in error; and meet with state offices to process/analyze reviews and incorporate the results into the State Medicaid Error Rate Findings system.

In addition, the NCI team will work with other PERM contractors to support the production of the national report on Medicaid and CHIP improper payments that CMS provides to Congress annually.
