Nearly 400 members of the region’s technology community came together Oct. 13 at the Ritz-Carlton in Tysons Corner for the NVTC Titans breakfast. This event featured a speech given by Roger Krone, chairman and CEO of Leidos, in which he discussed the recent merger, industry employment trends and advice for fellow leaders.
According to Krone, Leidos had four goals in mind when recently merging with Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Services. These included improving market position; expanding scale and diversifying its portfolio; strengthening and expanding core capabilities; and improving financial performance.
Leidos has been successful not only in those four goals but in restacking the company and creating a new team.
“Our employees are important,” Krone said. “They’re our most valuable asset.”
Leidos plans to hire over 6,000 new employees in IT, cybersecurity, data analytics and engineering this year alone.
Toward the end of the speech, Krone offered advice to fellow industry leaders on M&A deals. He shared the following guidance:
- Know your business, have a strategy and stick to it.
- Identify a group of leaders and high-level employees you trust.
- Don’t operate in the dark, seek council and advice.
- Never lose focus of the people.
