Engility Holdings Inc. has appointed former assistant defense secretary Katharina G. McFarland as a member of the Engility board of directors.
McFarland retired from civil service as the assistant secretary of defense for acquisition on Jan. 20, 2017. She was appointed to this position in 2012 by then-President Barack Obama, and during her ASD tenure, also served as acting assistant secretary of the Army for acquisitions, logistics & technology and as an Army acquisition executive. She was the science adviser to the secretary of the Army, as well as the Army’s senior research and development official and senior procurement executive.
“Katharina is one of the most accomplished defense leaders in the nation and brings more than 30 years of national security affairs, acquisition and military expertise to our Board,” said Lynn Dugle, CEO of Engility. “We are honored to have her join Engility and will count on her counsel and experience as we continue to develop solutions to the challenges our customers face around the world.”
McFarland has spent her career in civil service, and began her government career as a U.S. Marine Corps engineer in 1986 before rising to the position of assistant secretary in the Defense Department. McFarland served as president of the Defense Acquisition University from November 2010 to May 2012, and has also served as director of acquisition for the Missile Defense Agency.
