On June 21, WashingtonExec’s College and High School Leadership Committee hosted “Get Off the Bench” author Sid Fuchs for a discussion about the importance of strategic networking and relationship development from his book at the Cushman and Wakefield offices in Tysons Corner. This is one of several events WashingtonExec hosts annually for high school, college students, and recent grads about career development.
“It is always a pleasure to spend time with high school and college students who are genuinely interested in a real-world perspective,” said Fuchs, who serves as president and CEO of MacAulay-Brown, Inc. “The event was first class and the audience very engaged in the discussion.”
“WashingtonExec’s presentation was a great tool to learn how to build and maintain both personal and professional relationships,” said Rahul Ravindra, a student at the University of Virginia. “Mr. Fuchs gave poignant advice about the dos and don’ts of networking, building mutual relationships and staying true to one’s values. As a college student searching for internships and jobs, learning how to reach out to network and gain mentorship from professionals is a skill that has proved to be valuable and will continue to be important in the future.”
Fuchs offered 20 pieces of advice he’s learned during his career. Included was the advice for people to love and take care of their family and friends.
“I think it’s about work-life integration, not work-life balance,” Fuchs said.
