Allegheny Science & Technology (AST) announced April 1 the appointment of Douglas Kaempf as Vice President of its Energy Futures strategic business unit. He will manage the company’s $85 million Mission Oriented Technical Support (MOTS) contract supporting the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE).

“Doug knows our customer and has the proven leadership and management experience that makes him a valuable asset to our company,” CEO Arria Hines said. “We’re excited to welcome him to the AST team!”

Kaempf brings nearly 25 years of experience developing and managing projects in the nationally critical areas of industrial energy efficiency and biomass technologies to the position. As Director of the Office of Information Technology and Business Systems, and later as Chief Operations Officer within EERE, he provided leadership in business systems and organizational management. Prior to these roles, he served as senior design engineer with the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company and project engineer at the National Security Agency.

Kaempf earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and a master’s degree in technology management from the University of Maryland. He is a Lean Six Sigma green belt.
