Fairfax, Va.-based Salient CRGT Inc. executives John Edgar and David Vennergrund spoke at an Executive Breakfast for Advanced Analytics in Government on Nov. 18.
“Federal agencies are increasingly leveraging the power of their operational data by combining it with macro-economic data to create powerful and accurate budget forecasts,” Vennergrund said. “The application of predictive analytic and machine-learning algorithms, like those contained in the MicroStrategy Data Mining Services, allow these agencies to learn from the past to predict and plan for the future.”
The event, co-sponsored by Salient CRGT and MicroStrategy, shared information with government executives on how business intelligence, data discovery and advanced analytics tools can help transform the massive amounts of data captured by federal agencies into actionable information using insightful visualizations.
Edgar, Salient CRGT Chief Strategist – IT Transformation, drew upon his experience as the Vice President, Information Technology, for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), where he was responsible for one of the world’s largest corporate technology infrastructures with IT systems that operate around the clock powering all USPS business units. He shared his philosophy and strategy for understanding the evolution of data analytics and how to harness the power of data to drive mission objectives and make better business decisions in today’s data-centric world.
Vennergrund, Salient CRGT’s Data Analytics Innovation Center Director of Predictive Analytics and Data Science, discussed mission impact and technical details of a forecasting system created by Salient CRGT for a federal agency that uses MicroStrategy time-series forecasting, regression models and predictive analytics tools applied to OMB macro-economic data and historical tenant contributions. These models help to forecast the total subsidy needed for more than 17,000 contracts that supply more than one million units to more than 2.2 million tenants.
