For the past four years, government services provider, Engility has participated in the Building Homes for Heroes. Building Homes for Heroes (BHH) is a national non-profit organization that builds homes for soldiers who were injured while serving the country during times of war. BHH then gifts these homes to the soldiers and their families mortgage-free.
Last year Engility raised over $25K to help build a home for Master Sergeant Joseph Deslauriers and his family. This year Engility’s fundraising efforts began in May, employees raised $15,500. An additional $12,500 was donated by the organization to bring the total to $28K for this year’s recipient, U.S. Army Specialist Hugo Gonzalez who was severely wounded by an IED ambush near Baqubah, Iraq in 2004. Gonzalez has received several commendations, including the Purple Heart, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Combat Action Badge.
Tony Smeraglinolo, President and CEO at Engility stated, “Engility is honored to support Building Homes for Heroes and the work it has done to provide Army Specialist Hugo Gonzalez and his family with their new home. I’m proud of the Engility Employees who raised funds to support this project. Specialist Gonzalez is an American hero, and we deeply appreciate and respect his service and his sacrifice on behalf of this great country. On behalf of everyone at Engility, we say, “Thank you” to Specialist Gonzalez.”
John Murray, Engility’s Senior Vice President for Army Accounts attended the October 24th homecoming celebration in Port St. Lucie, FL for Specialist Gonzalez and had this to say of the event, “I was overwhelmed with the out pouring of love and support the Port St. Lucie community has for Spc. Gonzalez and his family. This was an event rich in patriotism and appreciation for him and everyone who has served our country, and I am looking forward to bringing that appreciation back to Engility to share with our employees.”
