WashExec Executive RollCall: JD Kathuria pulls from the broader WashingtonExec network to dish out the area’s who’s who and what’s what.

When it comes to striking deals, who you know trumps what you know in the government contracting community. And with three years of WashingtonExec’s outcome and result-oriented networking programs and events behind us, I’ve decided to expand our networking offering with some supplementary content.

The WashingtonExec Roll Call is a weekly feature within the WashingtonExec e-magazine that leverages our connections to catalog the area’s happenings.

For the past couple months we have tapped into our thousands of LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and in-person connections to compile and share with you information about the promotions, company switches, job openings and work anniversaries that transpire within the broader WashingtonExec network.

The end result? A running map of who’s where — professionally — in the Greater Washington area.

In this week’s WashExec RollCall, we saw three new hires/promotions. Read on for insight about the topics that caught our eyes and ears this past week within our network’s virtual water cooler.

    News at WashingtonExec:
We are gearing up for our 2015 K-12 STEM Symposium on March 7, 2015, at the Nysmith School in Herndon, Va. This year’s theme is “The Parent Factor: How to Engage Your Kids in STEM” to help parents who want to get their children involved with STEM activities, but may not know how or where to start. The free, all-day event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. equally engages children, parents and teachers with corporate, government, academia and non-profit executives from the STEM fields.

Hands-on exhibits will include building your own working circuit (Children’s Science Center), a flight simulator and meet a fighter pilot (Vencore), a flying drone demonstration (GMU Volgenau School of Engineering, Motion and Shape Computing (MASC) Group), robotics equipment (Nysmith School) and more.

You and your children will have the opportunity to interact with and hear from experts in the STEM fields and see, first-hand, how STEM is a part of our everyday lives. Confirmed speakers include Dr. Evan Glazer (TJHSST), Michele Weslander-Quaid (Google), Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Dr. Ann M. Carbonell (NGA), among others. There will also be break-out sessions to provide resources for parents with children at different age levels to find out what age-appropriate STEM. Three different speakers will separately address parents with students in elementary, middle and high school.

Attendees will also be able to find information about government and industry STEM-related high school and college internships. We expect more than 2,500 attendees. Click here to sign-up to attend this free event.
