With the celebrations of the holiday season and new year behind us, news in the govcon industry is picking up speed. Here’s what happened the week of Jan. 12, in case you missed it.
We are gearing up for our 2015 K-12 STEM Symposium on March 7, 2015, at the Nysmith School in Herndon, Va. This year’s theme is “The Parent Factor: How to Engage Your Kids in STEM.” The free, all-day event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. that equally engages children, parents and teachers, coupled with corporate, government, academia and non-profit executives from the STEM fields. Activities for the day will include hands-on experiments for children, government and industry exhibitors, student science fair projects and panel discussions with STEM stakeholders. Attendees will also be able to find information about government and industry STEM-related high school and college internships. For more information, click here. We expect more than 2,500 attendees.

In case you missed it, Fairfax County Public Schools’ six high school academies are seeking sponsors, exhibitors and presenters for its annual STEM-H (science, technology, engineering, math, and health and medical sciences) Expo, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 21, at Chantilly High School.
Additionally, we have started a new group for young professionals, entitled the NextGen of GovCon Leaders. Participants are young professionals/millennials (ages 22-37) in the Washington, D.C. area who work in the government or government contracting industry and also have one or both parents who also work in the business. Jonathan Moneymaker, Altamira Technologies Corp.’s Chief Strategy Officer, has been named the group’s 2015 Chairman.
Our 2015 Market Outlook Series continues with insight from NCI President Brian J. Clark and Northwind Partners’ Mark HuYoung.
Additionally, our Transitioning From Public to Private Sector Series continues with interviews from HP’s Bobby Laurine, formally National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s Chief Information Officer, and Agilex’s Roger Baker, formally the Dept. of Veterans Affairs Assistant Secretary for Information Technology.
