The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) today announced that it has named Barry C. West as Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Barbara Hagenbaugh as Deputy to the Chairman for Communications.
West, who brings more than 30 years of information technology experience, will begin this new role on December 1. Currently, he is the CIO and Deputy Chief Management Office for the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. In this role, West leads all IT and information management initiatives for the organization. His past positions include Executive Vice President for SE Solutions, Inc., CIO for the U.S. Department of Commerce, and CIO for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
“Barry West is a Renaissance Federal CIO, combining an excellent government track record with significant industry and academic experience to his career, having recently received his Ph.D. in Cloud Computing,” said Tom Suder, President of Mobilegov.
West earned a Doctorate in Business from Georgia State University, an M.S. in Information Technology from the University of Maryland, University College, an M.S. in Administration from Central Michigan University, and a B.S. in Information Systems from Northern Michigan University. He also teaches in the CIO certificate program at the University of Maryland, University College, where he is an Adjunct Assistant Professor.
Hagenbaugh, who will join the FDIC in her new role on November 17, spent more than five years as a senior media relations specialist and principal spokesperson for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. Prior to this role, she worked at USA Today, where she was an economics correspondent who co-led coverage of the recent financial crisis. Hagenbaugh also previously served as a correspondent for Reuters America, Inc., where she reported on the Federal Reserve and the U.S. economy.
Hagenbaugh earned a B.S. degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.
