Those interested in participating in the Women in Technology (WIT) 2015 Leadership Foundry may now apply for consideration to the nine-month workshop aimed at helping women secure positions on corporate boards in the Washington, D.C. area.
WIT’s efforts come at a time when only 11 percent of the area’s corporate board seats are held by women, according to WIT statistics. For a third of the DMV-based companies, no women hold places on the board of directors.
Leadership Foundry participants are selected by a steering committee of board members who, once the program is in session, provide women with access to board training sessions, informal and formal networking and mentoring opportunities.
Of last year’s Leadership Foundry participants, one was appointed to a corporate board, and another was selected to serve on three subsidiary boards, according to a WIT press statement released last month.
WIT is a professional association that aims to advance women in the technology industry “from the classroom to the boardroom.” The group does so by providing women with support, programs, professional development and resources. For more on the application process, please click here.
